May 12, 2010, 6:25 pm | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

Beijing resident throws a shoe at a property developer in his protest against unrealistic housing prices in China. It won't be too long before many Indian's start doing this at property exhibitions. The Iraqi jouranlist who threw the first shoe on George Bush was followed by another journalist who threw a shoe at the finance minister P. Chidambaram. The Chinese protestor received applause from the crowd so the common pain point is felt by a lot of people in...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

The Budget - Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde
February 27, 2010, 12:47 pm | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

The Finance Minister of India seem to have mastered the fine art of writing suspense thrillers, only here we know who is to blame. Giving direct IT tax breaks and taking it back using indirect forms like service tax, excise tax, petrol tax is pulling wool over the eyes of the millions of middle class Indians. With farmers he can write off loans, with this stupid NREGA scheme he pump thousands of crores into rural India without accountability, but when it comes to the middle class he...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

Indian economists are dumb - Asian Development Bank
January 15, 2010, 9:36 pm | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

ADB economists are practically saying that the RBI and the Indian government are the main characters in the Bollywood remake of the movie Dumb and Dumber. Who cares about wholesale inflation when citizens have to face consumer price index inflation every time they visit the store. The CPI numbers are staggering and the government is doing its best to hold interest rates low, to allow for big projects to take off at subsidized loans. They are afraid to upset the apple cart, lest they be seen...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

Non Congress governed states prone to less scams and bubbles
January 8, 2010, 7:42 pm | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

Looking at the ease at which Yedurappa made the announcement about $27 Billion dollars of investment makes me wonder if BJP is more business friendly then the pro-liberalization Congress party. Gujarat and Karnataka both BJP governed states have been attracting business investment by the likes of Tata and Mittals. Even Tamil Nadu under DMK has a good track record for being business friendly. Compare this to Maharashtra and AP under Congress and those two states have been under turmoil for...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

Firemen in Mumbai cannot go beyond 20th floor
December 28, 2009, 9:33 pm | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

How is the BMC approving building plans with more then 20 floors ? Every new building coming up has more then 20 floors. Expecting the builders to comply with fire-safety requirements is asking for the fox to guard the chicken. Is there anyone who believes this will happen ? I guess with the 100% water cut in future, one can only hazard a guess in the event of an unfortunate fire in the upper floors of a high-rise. Like all things in India, politicians won't face the music unless there is...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

Home Loans to be locked in for 5 years at 9.5%
December 9, 2008, 6:53 am | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

It looks like Indian bankers are yet to learn from the wave of option ARM defaults hitting the US home-owner. If the text of the press release is to be believed the bankers will be lending upto 20L for 9.5% for a period of 5 years until the loan resets to the market rate. In today's enviroment the publicly listed builders need the middle income earning to buy housing and the only way they can get that to happen is to pressurize banks to lower lending rates. As expected builders will now...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »
