Beauty isn't only glyph deep, even for Microsoft
July 16, 2010, 9:01 am | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

It was earlier this month that I wrote the blog entitled Beauty isn't only glyph deep. In it, I made serious accusation about what I consider the irresponsible behavior of the technological efforts of Google and Adobe. And I stand by those accusations. Not on behalf of Microsoft (who I didn't do this for) as a Microsoft employee (who I wasn't writing this as), but as one of the humans who depends on the quality of the work that both of these companies do. Just like almost everyone...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

If it was me, I'd say "I love the Rupee, and it was my idea!"
July 15, 2010, 5:01 am | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

This one could have been called Every character has a story #32 since we are talking about either a new character in Unicode, or less disruptively a glyph change! My first thoughts, being a geek who blogs, were to previous blogs of mine like The elusive G-sign said to exist in South America may not be in Windows, says a customer who has hunted for it about the Paraguay Guaraní currency symbol (₲, aka U+20b2, aka GUARANI SIGN)....and It is with a tenge of sorrow that I say this about...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

License plate curiosity in Tamil Nadu
July 14, 2010, 9:01 am | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

The first time it came to me was last week. I was looking at license plates. Tamil license plates. Kinda like the ones I saw in Bangalore that I talked about in Canada isn't Kannada, ay (ಎ)? and More on license plates in Bengalūru, and in India, the license plates on buses and taxis had one plate in English and one with the native language (thus for Tamil Nadu, this second license plate was in Tamil). Anyway, I promptly forgot about the issue I saw. Then a few days later at breakfast...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

Beauty isn't only glyph deep
July 6, 2010, 9:01 am | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

For the official record, this particular posted blog is my own opinions. I am speaking only for myself. More specifically I am not speaking for Microsoft, Unicode, Adobe, Google, Quark, INFITT, Tamil Nadu, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, or India. Though I suspect that over 50% of them might [at least privately] agree with me on over 50% of what I am about to say. PDF. Portable Document Format. Adobe’s for all intents and purposes (and intensive purposes, a fair misuse of language under...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

July 3, 2010, 9:01 am | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

So I have had a song stuck in my head since the start of the World Classical Tamil Conference and I find I really don't mind that fact very much. I am just really liking the song. Maybe it is because the song is in Tamil, and that I understand some of it. Or maybe because it is sung by famous Tamil singers with some truly wonderful voices. It might be pe in part due to the video, though that can't be the only reason since I liked it before I saw the video. You can see the video on...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

Me in The Hindu, aka Clearly not all press is bad press
July 1, 2010, 9:01 am | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

So I got into the papers from the conference. There were some pictures, and the guy working at the front desk delighted in finding them and saving them for me. I have no idea why. To whatever extent I may be dashing (a point I will often fervently argue against!) I don't think these pictures necessarily prove it (though Sri apparently disagrees on that point so I won't quibble).... Now the picture in The Hindu was different, as there was an interview. This made the picture's flaws...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »

June 28, 2010, 9:01 am | தலைப்புப் பக்கம்

I am probably going to be writing blogs on various topics related to things I learned at the World Classical Tamil Conference and the co-located Tamil Internet 2010 for a while now. I just learned so much, it will take a while to get through it all. So think of the as the first of many different blogs on the topic. This one is more about me than future ones will be. :-) First of all, regular reader Jan Kučera should text me ASAP at the phone number I mailed to your matfyz.cz address because...தொடர்ந்து படிக்கவும் »
